We are proud to be part of The Peace Agency, a registered non-profit (NPO 088/756) and public benefit organisation (PBO 930036293). At The Durban North Baby Home, we care for children from birth to four years old, including babies and toddlers with special needs who need extra love and support.
Our home has welcomed children from all walks of life — each story different, each one precious. Whether it’s a child found abandoned, placed for adoption, or left vulnerable by tragic circumstances, we are here to give them love and care while we work alongside social workers and adoption agencies to secure their futures.
Our goal is to be a place of peace, love, and safety — not just for the children, but for families and supporters who want to make a difference.
Meet Jo & Bjorn – Our Heart and Home
Behind every great home is a great heart — and we are blessed to have Jo and Bjorn Teunissen as our “crisis parents.” Both educators by profession, they bring not only knowledge but compassion, empathy, and a boundless love for children.
Their journey began in 2014 when they adopted their son, Emmanuel, from a local Child and Youth Care Centre. This life-changing experience sparked their desire to help more children in need. Together with The Peace Agency, they opened the doors of The Baby Home Durban North in December 2015.
Jo and Bjorn are parents to three wonderful children of their own and, at any given time, care for up to six babies or toddlers in the home. Their days are filled with laughter, baby bottles, toddler mischief, and countless tender moments — and they welcome all the support they can get!
